No one does music quite like Camille and Xavier do. I see their music as being akin to soundtracks for unfilmed movies. In this instance it is a movie about explorers of mountainous terrain, perhaps the terrain of our lives. Merci pour cette musique si intrigante. :-) sumbuk

This album impressively confirms the continuously high standard of Belgian avantgarde music, and it's not surprising at all that this jaw-dropping masterpiece was released in 1998 on the unique "Carbon 7" label, founded by Guy Segers and Alan Ward. The mastermind behind "Hardscore" is Frank Nuyts, an accomplished Belgian composer, whose writing style on "Methane" turns out as highly idiosyncratic, sometimes getting close to the territory of classic Zappa, "Art Bears", and "Slapp Happy". I recommend to take some time and dig deeper into Guy Segers' archive on Bandcamp, which contains lots of much sought-after "Carbon 7" titles, besides many other goodies, like Guy's own compositions, and tons of live recordings by "Univers Zéro" and several other bands Guy played with. I didn't notice that Guy has added this album to his Bandcamp catalog... Fortunately, "sweetchickyjam" did, and I had to grab it immediately! Multi-talented Belgian composer and marimba wizard Frank Nuyts is one of the brightest stars in zappaesque avantgarde music. No doubt about it. Like "Methane" from 1998, "Surf, Wind & Desire" is a rollercoaster of freaky art rock pieces, orchestrated with finest woodwind and tuned percussion sections. Sven B. Schreiber (sbs)
